Comments on the info you provided:
- no home plan:
I am okay with this
- 2 zone whole house audio
minimum extended zones are 4 so I will start with 4.
- wiring starts next week
sorry about the delay I was on vacation friday.
Audio distribution:
Each family room will be its own 7.1 sourround sound system.
YOu will need to pick one of the two family rooms where you
will have the whole house audio sources. (e.g. CD/MP3/XM/FM players). This will be the 'headend' of the whole house audio system. We will use 4 zone A-bus whole house audio system.
The A-bus 4-zone system will allow volume control/IR Repeater functions in each room. It will extend your fourroom audio system to 4 additional zones (e.g. kitchen, dining, deck and master bedroom)
Security Cameras: we will wire each camera location with 1 RG6 and one cat5e cable. This allow use of both CCTV and IP camera. Use RG6 for CCTV camera and cat5e cable for 12 V DC.
Structured wiring outlets: see solution specification below.
We use VDT and DT in each room.
Structured wiring panel location: the downstairs Control panel room is a good loctaion. Use an interior wall to install the panel so that the wiring can be routed easily thorugh the hollow wall.
Solution Specification:
Six types of outlets
VDT : Video, Data, Telephone, powered by a composite cable that contains 2 x RG-6 Cable and 2 x Cat5e Cables DT : Data + telephone powered by a pair of cat5e cables HT : 7.1 Home theater 6 pairs of binding post modules for audio distribution to 2 front,2 rear, 2 surround and 1 subwoofer and center channel. (Located behind entertainment/TV unit. (Other end terminates directly on to the speakers. AKP :Audio Keypad for A-bus whole house audio with ceiling speakers in same room/zone powered by cat5e from panel/entertainment center and 14/2 speaker wires to ceiling speakers T : Telephone only outlet powered by a single Cat5e cable. VC : video camera, run one RG6 and 1 cat5e to each of the interior/exterior camera location. Three technologies available, CCTV($), IP camera($$), IP camera with Power over ethernet($$$) wire for both.
CCTV uses 1 RG6 for video and cat5e for 12V DC
IP camera uses cat5e for signal and control and have a 110 V AC close by for power.
IP camera with power over ethernet handles signal/control and power all from one cat5e but is very expensive now.
When pre-wiring for video camera leave ample extra length on camera end and cover gang box with wallplate.
General Design Principle used: at least 1 VDT and 1 DT in each room for good coverage for TV/Telephone/Data at appropriate locations. Use 7.1 surround sound in Family Room, Living Room and Master Bed. Extend those audio systems to approprite zones in the area.
