Video Sources:
For video network we try to take the source signal
in the source format as close to the TV/Tuner as
possible. . We will use a multiswitch to combine the
satellite, cable TV and DVD source from any room. and
send it down to each room. At each room we use a diplexer
to split the signal back to the required cableTV/satelliteTV tuners. We will wire each video location with two RG6 cables, one downstream and the other upstream. The downstream cable (you can color code it with the gold coax connector) brings the output from the multiswitch. THe upstream RG6 cable (you can use the nickel plated F-connector to color code this one) takes DVD/VCR/TIVO source and sends it as input to the multiswitch.
Audio Sources:
Home theater will be its own 5.1 sourround sound
Den would have another 5.1 system.
Would recommend 5.1 wiring in the master bed too with
two extra binding post modules to extend this to the master bath/Dressing room for listening to TV/FM audio in the morning.
There will be a data jack in the Den. YOu can use ethernet to transport the MP3 to the Den if your PC is in another room.
The A-bus 4-zone system will allow volume control/IR Repeater functions in each room. It will extend your Den audio system to the required 4 zones. If the TIVO is located in the Den, then you can control the TIVO from these 4 zones. If you need additional point-to-multipoint dedicated IR Repeater networking let me know and I will send you a list of components for just that.
Internet: we will wire for 10/100/1000Mbps with the Cat5e data cable. you will be able to send the output of DSL/Cable modem back to the structured wiring panel. The 4 port router there will enable your home network. The 8-port swith give you the ability to power upto 12 data locations simultaneously.
Structured wiring outlets: see solution specification below.
We use VDT and DT in each room.
Basement Control panel. This location is good, we will use
a 42 inch panel. Use a centrally located hollow inside wall to mount the panel.
Solution Specification:
Six types of outlets
VDT : Video, Data, Telephone, powered by 2 x RG-6 HDTV 3.0 GHz Cable and 2 x Cat5e Cable DT : Data + telephone powered by a pair of cat5e cables HT : 5.1 Home theater 6 pairs of binding post modules for audio distribution to 2 front,2 rear and 1 subwoofer and center channel. (Located behind entertainment/TV unit. (Other end terminates directly on to the speakers. AVC :Audio Volume control for A-bus whole house audio with ceiling speakers in same room/zone powered by cat5e from panel/entertainment center and 14/2 speaker wires to ceiling speakers T : Telephone only outlet powered by a single Cat5e cable. VC : video camera, run one RG6 and 1 cat5e to each of the interior/exterior camera location. Three technologies available, CCTV($), IP camera($$), IP camera with Power over ethernet($$$) wire for both.
CCTV uses 1 RG6 for video and cat5e for 12V DC
IP camera uses cat5e for signal and control and have a 110 V AC close by for power.
IP camera with power over ethernet handles signal/control and power all from one cat5e but is very expensive now.
When pre-wiring for video camera leave ample extra length on camera end and cover gang box with wallplate.
General Design Principle used: at least 1 VDT and 1 DT in each room for good coverage for TV/telephone/data at appropriate locations.
Kitchen
1 VDT under cabinet/on splash-board to allow tel, data and under cabinet
TV.
1 T in kitchen using the Leviton out-of-sight Jack for a complete wireless look.
1 D (Data only Outlet) behind the fridge for Internet/Fridge hookup.
Dining
none
Den
2 VDT at big screen TV/Flat Panel TV location
note: if installing flat panel TV, install wallplate
(and 110V outlet) at approx 5 feet height.
1 HT(5.1) with front speakers/subwoofer
1 DT near the couch
Living room
1 VDT are required location
Spa
1 VDT are required location
Library
1 VDT at the desk location
1 DT at another location of your choice.
Master Bedroom
1 VDT on wall across from bed
2 DT one on each side of bed
1 HT - You did'nt specify, but looking at your MB's expansive layout, would recommend it. (we can remove if you dont like it), You can also extend this home theater with an A-B switch and have two Auxillary ceiling speakers in the bathroom to playback TV sound or listen to News/Traffic in the morning.
Two Guest bedrooms and Lounge
3 x 1 VDT
3 x 1 DT in on another wall of your choice in each of the 3 rooms
Upstairs Stairs area
1 T (leviton out of sight jack)
Whole House audio (5)
YOur living and dining rooms are large enough that you really need a 5 zone system.
Your audio source would be picked up from the entertainment unit in the den and sent to the structured wiring panel using cat5e cable. There it gets distributed to (5) A-bus controller units(using cat5e cable). Controllers mount in each of the 5 zones. From the controller unit a 14/2 speaker wire would take the amplified audio signal to the ceiling speakers. With the example configuration shown, you would extend the Living rooms (5.1) audio system to 4 other "guest entertaining"/masterbed zones on the first floor.
IP camera/CCTV camera(5)
Run one cat5e and one rg6 cable to each potential
camera location. (eg porch, Entry/Family Room Ceiling) For indoors and remote command and control use IP camera and
install camera diagonally opposite from door at ceiling
height to cover entire room or center of ceiling in Family Room, also provide 110V AC to power
IP camera. For outdoors use weatherproof bullet camera
and CCTV technology.
